The biggest site featuring deepfake pornography, Mr.Deepfakes, is ceasing operations: the provider has declined to service the resource
Mr. Deepfakes, the largest web page for pornographic deepfake content online, has made public its closure. The reason was the loss of a “critically important” service provider, and with it, all data, 404 Media reports.
“A vitally important service provider [for the resource] has permanently stopped support. Due to data loss, further work is impossible,” the notification to users reads.
Forums and videos posted on the platform are unavailable. The site administration stated that its restart is not planned.
“We will not relaunch the project. If you see the same site, know that it is a fake. The domain registration period will eventually expire, and we are not responsible for its future use.”
The Mr. Deepfakes site appeared after social networks and forums, such as Reddit, introduced a ban on deepfake pornography and other forms of non-consensual (that is, created or obtained without consent) content. The platform allowed uploading videos and interacting with providers from whom it was possible to order deepfake pornography for cryptocurrency. While many other online resources have gradually tightened their policies regarding non-consensual generated content, Mr. Deepfakes continued to actively post such material.
In 2022, it became known that DeepFaceLab, one of the most advanced and popular open source projects for creating deepfake videos, was developed with the active participation of Mr. Deepfakes users. As of 2025, the identity of the resource owner has not been disclosed, although in January the German publication Der Spiegel identified him as a 36-year-old hospital worker in Toronto.
In 2024, deepfake pornography “featuring” singer Taylor Swift went viral on X. According to 404Media, Swift’s deepfake images were created in Microsoft Designer. As Microsoft stated, “as part of the investigation” it was unable to reproduce explicit images in the generator. Nevertheless, the company promised to tighten the filters of prompts in order to avoid abuse of its services.
In May 2024, Google prohibited advertisers from promoting services that could contribute to the creation of deepfake pornography and other forms of explicit content.
