Grok AI chatbot undresses women on demand at X

Users of the chatbot can modify photos of other people without their consent directly on the X social network. Grok does not have the security filters that other popular chatbots have.

According to 404 Media, citing Bellingcat researcher Colina Koltai, users can simply reply to a publicly posted photo on X with a request for Grok to “take her clothes off.” In response, the bot generates an image of a woman in a bikini or lingerie, sometimes providing a link to a chat with Grok where the altered photo is created.

Grok is positioned by Musk as a less restrictive alternative to other AI models such as ChatGPT, which have strict filters that prohibit the creation of explicit content. The Examiner notes that while Grok doesn’t generate fully nude images, its “stripped-down” feature raises serious concerns because of its ease of access, the ability to publicly respond to original photos, and the lack of consent from the people depicted.

A search on X shows dozens of such requests, with activity suggesting the practice first became popular among Kenyan users in early May, as also reported by local publication Citizen Digital.

Journalists asked the chatbot if it has security mechanisms, such as filters or training to prevent the creation of non-consensual explicit content. Grok responded by apologizing for a “gap in security measures” and promising to review policies to strengthen privacy and consent protections. However, the bot continues to generate explicit images.
